Warning about Zoom! Tooth Whitening "Weekender" kit ?

Question:

Warning about Zoom! Tooth Whitening "Weekender" kit ?

Answer: I got the Zoom! Weekender tooth-bleaching kit on the advice of my dentist. I asked repeatedly about its safety and effectiveness and was assured it was a great product. It cost $250.

IT IS A HORRIBLE PRODUCT. First, even though I used slightly less than the recommended amount of the bleaching solution, it ate away my gums immediately. They healed, but it took about three days before they stopped looking and feeling like raw meat.

I have complained to the company about half a dozen times in the past three weeks and have gotten absolutely no reply.

This company is bad, bad news. They have created a product that could be dangerous, yet the materials/instructions included give absolutely no indication of the dangers. There's NOTHING in the literature included with the product or on the Web site that warns people their gums might be eaten away by this material. To add insult to injury (literally), they have no customer service at all, and although they encourage you to contact them both via e-mail and via a bulletin board that is part of their Web site (discusdental.com), they do not pay attention to anything they receive.

AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE THEY ARE. I am probably going to have to file a complaint via my credit card company. I am most angry because my dentist suggested I do this, and even though I asked all the right questions, I still got ripped off--and hurt.

Just about any tooth-whitening product can do this. My in-law is a dentist and he even warns patients about toothpastes with whitening agents because they are even strong enough to cause pain in some people. I used a Rembrand gel-and-tray whitener years ago and had no problems. However, my husband and I both recently tried Crest Whitestrips and after the first strip it felt like it was eating away into my gums. My husband had the same problem. My gums were bright red and very inflamed for a couple of days.
