Question:
I was watching my favorite show,Hannity and the other guy and saw a
commercial for a ultra sonic electric toothbrush. Hummm I said wonder if
anyone ever came up with such a device in an affordable cleaning
kit.I've seen ads for electro cleaners but why not something similar to
an electric toothbrush.Would the flammable solvents be dangerous around
a battery driven device. If not even an electric toothbrush alone would
be great for cleaning chambers and receivers. Thought I'd ask first if
anyone has used one before I blow myself up.
Answer:
We have four Sonicare toothbrushes. The brush-heads last about 2 months then
need to be replaced. I've been saving the old ones so I can use them to clean
guns, but haven't really needed to use them.
Regular toothbrushes work great to so far. I never let the guns get so dirty
that a good brushing is all they need to remove all the gunk, even with my
.22's which really get dirty.
The electronic components of the toothbrush are sealed. The vibrating head
uses magnets. I don't think you'd blow yourself up unless you're using
something super flamable. I don't use anyhting any more volatile than Hoppes
#9.
I picked up a ultrasonice jewelery cleaner for $7 (JR's ciggarette
world, exit 97 on I-95 in N.C.). It has a large oval tank just right
for bathing rifle bolts. I was amazed at the junk that came out of my
old Rem #41 Targetmaster 22 rifle that I have had since a teen. I have
since started using this very frequently. It gets the gunk out of the
nooks and crannies without having to totally dissassemble the unit. By
the way, I use Ed's Red as the cleaning solution.
Same here.
Whatever is stuck on my guns, old Sonicare heads and Simple Green are
not as good a conventional tooth brush and Simple Green.
I do take guns in the shower with a big scrub brush.
