Teeth whitening with BF ?

Question:

Does anyone know if the teeth whitening is okay with BF ??

Answer: It looks like it depends on what kind of bleaching system is used.

My box of Crest Whitestrips says that they SHOULD be safe fore pregnant and nursing women, but to ask your doctor first.

Rembrant Plus bleaching system has no info about it in the package.

On the net I found:

Can I whiten my teeth while I am pregnant or nursing? Answer: The effect of the bleaching gel on the baby, if you're pregnant, is unknown. You will swallow some of the gel while you're bleaching. Pregnancy is such a delicate time for mother and baby that I wouldn't advise bleaching at that time. However, if you are nursing, I wouldn't discourage you from bleaching, although there isn't universal agreement among cosmetic dentists on that. http://www.mynewsmile.com/mynewsmile/bleachin.htm

If I am pregnant or nursing, should I have this treatment? There is no known hazard associated with whitening teeth while pregnant or nursing. However, consult with your physician and your dentist for more specific recommendations. http://www.britewhite.com/faqs.html

Can I bleach my teeth during pregnancy / nursing? It is always recommended as a precaution measure to not use bleaching products during pregnancy or while nursing. http://www.udent.com/AskADentist.asp?t=25

Can everyone bleach their teeth? Almost everyone, but there are a few exceptions. Patients with active tooth decay must have these areas treated prior to bleaching. Women should not bleach while they are pregnant or nursing, and the process is not recommended for use on children. http://www.finesmiles.com/webpages/services/cosmetic/bleach.html

Are there any side effects? Some people experience temporary tooth sensitivity during treatment. Others have reported discomfort in the gums or in loose fillings. Gum irritation usually disappears within 1-3 days after beginning the procedure and always upon the discontinuation or completion of treatment. There are no other significant side effects. NOTE - Pregnant or nursing women should not engage in dental bleaching. http://www.athomewhitening.com/information/faq/faq.html

I sent this same question to Dr. Hale's website before using Nupro Gold whitener (which contains a high percentage of carbamine peroxide), and he indicated that it would be very unlikely for the peroxide to be passed through the milk in any significant quantity. If a package insert includes a warning for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, it's very likely a CYA measure for the manufacturer.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised. I did not get to finish the whole box because my teeth became VERY sensitive. They warn you that it can happen. Your are supposed to stop for a few days and resume, but I never did. I use Aquafresh Whitening toothpaste daily.
