Question:
I believe NOYB said in a recent post that he would only trust 5 of his
fellow dental school grads to work on his teeth. What does one look
for in order to find a good dentist I can trust to have my best
interests at heart? Does anyone know of any really good dentists in
the Cincinnati area?
Answer:
What I like about my dentist:
- He is encouraging and praises my dental hygiene (I like praise... call me
crazy, but I know it and it helps)
- He has WINDOWS... gives me a place to focus that is much easier than trying
to find a spot on the wall or a place behind that overhead light (if he didn't
have windows, a nice painting or something would help)
- His hygenist is not a masochist and does what she has to do without too much
aggression... or too much conversation when my mouth is full of her equipment
- He is concerned about radiation exposure and only does x-rays every 3 years
- He remembers me and watches certain areas on my teeth that he says are doing
fine, but which I suspect another dentist might be attacking (can't remember
his wording exactly, but he said there is a place that has a tiny crack that
has remineralized or something and isn't changing, so he's just watching it and
it seems to be doing fine)
If a dentist used a 4% solution of anesthetic (Citanest Forte or
Articaine/Septonest) for a mandibular block, there may have been
paresthesia without any nerve truama.
