Gingivitis cure?

Question:

I have had what I think is gingivitis for a week now, despite getting my teeth cleaned every six months. In one area I have sore gums and bleeding when I clean my teeth. Listerine helps a lot but doesn't finish it off. I have some peridontal disease prescription mouthwash I've been using for years (Peridex) but it doesn't seem to help at all. I've been taking echinacea for a week too, but no effect I've noticed.

Any suggestions - other than go to a dentist? (Dentists cost a lot of money and I have little.)

I looked on the web briefly earlier but haven't found any home- treatment suggestions yet.

Answer:

Gingivitis may require a maintenance to keep under control rather than a cure. Dilute H2O2(2x to 10 x) mouth wash may help, start with most dilute. Do not use on a routine basis. From there look to boosting your immune system with things like immune boosting polysaccharides (beta glucan, arabino galactan, etc.) and transfer factor, the echinacea can work with these but take it only periodically.

My dentist recently told me that hormonal imbalance could cause a gingivitis-like state where your gums bleed or are more sensative. He sees it sometimes in women but I would imagine the same could be true for a man since they have hormones too :). I also vaguely remember reading about a certain vitamin or mineral defficiency could lead to mouth trouble. I think it was Zinc or Vitamin C, but I'm not sure so that's not really helpful. Perhaps looking up symptoms of nutritional defficiency may bring it up.

I suggest you writing me and I will get some info from you and send it to our on staff nutritionalists. It will take the guesswork out of what you need!!!! Cam Jeffries....Its Free Too
