Dental Cost ?

Question:

I'm going broke with high dental costs. Bridges at $5K, implants at $1700 each etc. Looks like the Dentists bill at $1500-2000 per hour. Is there any way to beat this?

Answer:

Are you saying that bridges are $5,000? (5K) each? Where are you?

Yes, I am saying that bridges are $5K each in Wilmington, DE Where should I move to?

In a recent consultation with a UK dentist I was told that each implant was circa 1800 pounds sterling and he believed they would eventually oust dentures. . However, before I can obtain the cheaper option of an upper denture using a metal plate circa 500 pounds my existing teeth must be cleaned by his hygienist. This is costing 65 pounds per 30 minute session when only 4 teeth are cleaned at a time.

The practice seems more concerned with cash flow than care.

Not in time taken I agree. But why charge the same as a doctor or solicitor for a technical service when the training to become a hygienist was only one year?

I have tried a plastic denture before and couldn't get used tom it. The dentist thinks I might find a metal one less uncomfortable.

I have only been there twice. There are no NHS dentists in my area taking on new patients. The upfront cost to switch to another dentist is 45 pounds for a consultation. I do not know what their other charges will be and cannot easily find out probably because I do not know what questions to ask and how to phrase them.

The practice will require a certain amount of income per hour in order to remain viable, whether it's the hygienist or the dentist doing the work is not important. Frankly, I'd rather have a hygienist doing S&RP than the average dentist.

The metal will be thinner and the improved thermal conduction may help. The retention of the metal base isn't quite as good.
