Question:
I chipped one of my front teeth by biting down too hard ( accidentally)
on a spoon. Its a tiny chip on the front bottom but I have really nice
teeth so I want to get it fixed . I have a few questions.
1. Do i need a cosmetic dentist or can my regular dentist handle this?
i assume i will need contouring and some bonding. I don't want a
veneer. i have great teeth.
2. I had bonding on another tooth and its lasted almost ten years and
isn't discolored. do all dentists use the same type of bonding
materials?
3. can i put this off? Its a tiny chip and i can't feel it with my
tongue, only with my finger nail. I am in graduate school and money is
tight.
Answer:
Iīll start with nr. 3: If itīs bearly visible, leave it or have your
dentist polish it.
Nr. 2: Bonding materials of today usually donīt discolor. Thereīs a
great variaty of products available and dentist use different products,
but they all (mostly) do the job.
1: Your regular dentist should be able to fix it if you still want it
done. Anyhow once done you can see the result immidialtly = if your
satisfied = no problem :-)
there is no seperate specialty called cosmetic dentist. Either the
dentist you go to concentrates his/her practice on metal free tooth
coloured materials and has experience with cosmetic dental makeovers or
not.
Having said that any dentist can fix your problem some can fix it
better than others and being a cosmetic dentist has nothing to do with
the quality of how your problem can be fixed.
