I was
taught a basic routine for managing
an oral infection.
1) Antibiotics for systemic protection
2) Establish drainage
3) Remove the cause
4) Follow up
Antibiotics DO NOT remove pus. If
anesthesia can be attained, removing
the offending tooth establishes
drainage in many cases...along with
removing the cause of the infection.
If your wish is to save the tooth,
then removing the pulp often establishes
drainage and removes the cause of
the infection.
